Group Concept

Whilst having its roots firmly in North Yorkshire, Tesserrae Group Ltd is a vehicle formed to head up a group of niche subsidiary businesses, with fairly wide geographic boundaries, based in the engineering sector. The overall ethos is to develop a group of companies with diversity in product, service and sector, but also with strong synergies. Strategic objectives are growth in turnover and profitability, growth in employment, and a share in that success for all colleagues in the businesses.

It had become clear that there were a lot of small engineering businesses for sale without a ready market for them. They were generally owner or family managed, limited management and many were retirement sales. Although in the most part profitable, they were generally sleepy, under performing lifestyle businesses. They were unattractive as a trade sale because of size and needed an entrepreneurial purchaser with expertise in the arena.

The concept and objectives have been slowly refined over a period and the overall concept can be stated as

“To develop an engineering group with a minimum turnover of £30M and a good level of profitability.”

Group Objectives

The outline objectives are:

  • The acquisition of small engineering businesses, where they have:
  • Existing skilled managers such that we can rebuild with a level of retained management whether that be first or second tier.
  • A good, solid turnover base.
  • An operating sector that is a stable or growth sector.
  • The potential of significant expansion, an achievable target of doubling turnover in four years.
  • A synergy with existing group companies such that there will be opportunity to cross sell within the Group’s wider customer base.
